As some of you may have noticed, it’s been a bit quiet on here. Over the last month or so, I haven’t been able to post anything from my computer due to the WordPress ‘White Screen of Death’ issue affecting my blog. I was constantly greeted with a blank screen whenever I tried logging in. I tried everything from disabling plugins, changing my theme, adjusting strings of code, etc but didn’t have much luck until today!!!
I did a back up of my WordPress files off my FTP site and had decided to delete the WordPress app off my server so that I can reinstall the newer 3.9.2 version (it was stuck on 3.2 at the time). When I reinstalled the app and copied/replaced the necessary files, I had eventually realized that I neglected to do a back up of my database (duh!) which was apparently one of the most important parts of my blog, holding all the content from my posts. That kinda gave me a slight moment of panic and cold sweat until I decided to contact my amazing hosting provider, Media Temple. They literally saved me from losing everything thanks to their 24/7 online chat support and CloudTech On-Demand service which saves an automatic back up of my files on their servers. All I did was fill in an Emergency File Restore request to restore my database/WordPress files, then within a short 6 hours this blog was restored to its original state! AAAND as an added bonus, when I went to log in, I saw this lovely welcome page:
Wordpress was updated to the latest version and most importantly it was no longer a blank screen!!! That was my 1am moment of happiness. I guess my slight mishap worked out for the better and helped resolve the issue. Now I’ve got one less problem and many blog posts to come including a site design overhaul I’ll be working on!
