Wow, time flies! It’s hard to believe that close to 7 weeks have passed already since I started training with the 20kg kettlebell. I had concluded my journey with the 16kg kettlebell at the OKC California Open Championships and began training with the 20kg a week after the ‘Stage 5 party’ ended (March 12). And now I am only 3 days away from my FIRST competition doing 20kg long cycle! Crazy!
I have to say that with Jason Dolby’s programming, I have seen some steady progress in my lifting. 20kg is a heavy beast but luckily there are days where it doesn’t feel so hard to lift…like in the above video of my 13th lifting session, 5 weeks into training with the 20kg kettlebell. This was my longest and first attempt at a 6 minute shark set with the purple haze 20kg bell. Didn’t go as horribly as I thought it would. I got 9.2rpm and it got me feeling a lot more confident about the upcoming Agatsu Canadian Championship.
Since then, my training has been lower volume and a lot of micro sets. I was a rebel child this past long Easter weekend and went a bit crazy with the workouts. Starting with a pick-up soccer game, kettlebell training, bodyweight workout, some barbell lifting/squatting/pressing, a step/abs class, and ended it all with some time in the sauna. This week I’m just taking it easy and letting my body recover in time for the weekend.
I have yet to complete a full 10 minute set with the 20kg, so that will be Saturday’s big set! Looking forward to killing it at the Agatsu Canadian Kettlebell Championship!
